Watermelon Lemonade (Nature’s Gatorade Recipe)

Freshly sliced watermelon, lemon, salt, and maple syrup come together to make this hydrating watermelon lemonade, Nature’s Gatorade!

As a little kid I spent a lot of my Summers in the Mississippi Delta where my grandfather grew watermelons bigger than your head and my grandma would slice them into huge pieces and cover them in salt. And me and all my cousins would devour them faster than Grandaddy could pick another one.

How Do You Make Nature’s Gatorade

Combining the ingredients of fresh watermelon, lemon, maple syrup, and salt is how you make Nature’s Gatorade. This version is a Watermelon Lemonade, but you can make it a variety of ways.

Change It Up!

In my house, Nature’s Gatorade is an umbrella term we use for any electrolyte filled, extra hydrating drink.

You can make Nature’s Gatorade a variety of ways:

  • Substitute the watermelon for another melon like honeydew or cantaloupe.
  • Use lime, orange, or grapefruit in place of the lemon.
  • Substitute coconut water for the water called for in the recipe.

Make it your own and have fun with your summer hydration!
